Gesture Controlled Robot Using Kinect Sensor & Arduino

Hello Readers..!!!

Today, I thought of sharing one of my projects with you all rather than a software...

So...this is my Engineering Project for the Bachelor's Degree.

ROBOTICS..! When we hear this word, a lot of things cross over our mind. Not only the making of the robot is difficult but also the operations, and we always find the users in a dilemma to operate on. The reason being that you ought to have some knowledge of the either remote control or the installation and debugging part of it. This makes the accessibility very poor to the illiterate or the layman. How a about a language which is known to every human being, the language of gestures?!

Now, when you have to capture the motion of the body, Image Processing comes into picture. To do that you need softwares like Matlab. Although the cracks are available in the commercial market the cost of the product shoots up to lakhs of Rupees. But, there is a sensor with whom we all are familiar, it is used in the Xbox Gaming. Yeah, you got it right, it's the Microsoft's Kinect Sensor..! This fellow reduces the cost drastically..besides that, it has an improved efficiency and simple to operate and program.

We used the Skeleton Tracking ability of the sensor to our benefit and developed an Arm which follows the Right of the user. Then we thought of putting that on wheels to make a full fledged human like bot. We used the Arduino Mega 2560 board with couple of motors. The Kinect sensor looks for pre-defined gestures and as soon as one is detected, the data is sent through the Bluetooth of the computer to the Bluetooth of the Robot. On receiving the commands the Arduino processes the data and performs the required task.

Hope you Liked it.

Don't forget to like the video, and share. Comment with your queries and views on the same. :)
